As usual it's been a while since I posted on my blog.
I seem to have been very busy in the last year being a 'nanna' to my 21 month old grandson, JACK, and I am really excited as his new baby sister is due to arrive tomorrow! I am also really happy as my son and his wife to be (next May!) have decided to give the new baby my middle name as her middle name!

I have also been really busy with my allotment; it is surprising how much time growing your own fruit and veg requires! Especially the maintenance and weeding of the plot! We have had a bumper crop of cabbages this year and I think most people are getting a bit fed up with eating them now! We have also had great success with our tomatoes and chilli's and did fairly well with our strawberries. We have turned into real forragers this year and have enjoyed finding many apple and plum trees which have resulted in mass production of jam and chutney, which leads me onto the reason why I haven't been painting so much these last few years....I seem to be cooking quite a lot! I am hoping to hold a stall at a Christmas Fayre in December to sell my wares which will include quite a few 'mini' Christmas cakes! More details to follow; one thing is for sure there will be some unusual jams and chutneys for sale; such as Sucrine Du Berry (a French butternut squash) with apple and ginger (jam) and sweet tomato and chilli (chutney). Thanks to my lovely niece, Emily for making my little glass jar covers, they look fab!

I am hoping to get back to some serious painting in the near future so watch this space!

Exhibition

I am really pleased that 'Audrey' has found a new home as she was sold yesterday at the Active Arts exhibition held at Countesthorpe College annually. Although I was sad to see her go it is really satisfying to know someone out there appreciates her. It's funny how you get attached to each individual painting! I hope she is enjoying her new 'home'!

These style of paintings are really effective and a pleasure to produce.

I have had particular success with these when painting 'personal portraits' for friends and relatives.

I am happy to take commissions if you would like a 'pop art' portrait so please get in touch! I aim to complete a painting of this nature within a week and am happy to ship out if required.

There is the annual art exhibition at Countesthorpe College run by Active Arts in March and following my invite to exhibit I need to get busy working on at least two new paintings! Once again, It has been a while since I updated my blog:
There has been much to do since my last post, mainly at the allotment! Although I only acquired my plot in April my veggies have been quite successful and we are now planning to rest the ground over winter. We have had bumper crops of runner beans and beetroot and have done quite well with parsnips, carrots, tomatoes and raspberries to mention a few! Still growing are pumpkins, squash and sweetcorn. I am now also planning to bake pies and make jam with the apples and blackcurrants I have at my disposal!

On the painting front: 3 paintings: Marilyn, Sophia and Audrey have now all found new permanent homes! I was also privileged to be asked to sketch a portrait for a friend of her 103 year old mum who sadly passed away earlier this year. I was apprehensive as I hadn't attempted a personal portrait in pencil before and wanted to do the picture justice but my friend was thrilled with the result and is now happily displaying the portrait in her home. She has now asked me to paint a portrait of her mum too!

I really hate to rush through the year, especially as time seems to fly by so quickly these days but Christmas looms on the horizon and with that in mind please don't forget to order well in advance if you would like to give the gift of a portrait or painting to a loved one this Christmas. It really is a unique one-off gift which can be treasured and isn't available in any shop!

Suddenly there is a lot to do on the painting front as I will be exhibiting 3 paintings at the ELMESTHORPE ARTS AND CRAFTS EXHIBITION 2010, venue: Village Hall and St Mary's Church, Elmesthorpe, date and time: Sat 12 June, 11-5 and Sunday 13 June, 11-4. Come along if you can as there will be many varied styles of art, including pottery, paintings, needlework etc to view with the chance to purchase. Artwork is a great original gift-there are never two items the same when handmade!
Anyway that's my advertising out of the way!!
I have been very busy this month as I have acquired an allotment which has needed a lot of work to get it into shape for late planting, have had lots of help, particularly from my father who has both brains and talent in the garden! Thanks Dad.
Bert has been busy too with the manual work...digging!
I have done my share with digging, planting and 'landscaping'!!
I am pleased to say I have just completed one commission for 'Freddie Mercury' and I have another 3 potential commissions in the pipeline.

Just been reading through my old posts as it's been a while since I added anything to the blog until recently as my artwork came to a standstill for quite some time, but I am getting back on track with it now and have decided to give the 'pop art' a go. It has mainly been a success so far but still practising with different acrylics and canvases. It's nice to try different painting styles.
It's also great to get positive feedback so don't forget to leave your comments on the page.

Looking back at the blog it was interesting to read the list of things I wanted to do; I tried the horseriding and decided that hobby is for the brave...and the young!! My horse decided to bolt when it heard two others fighting and gave me quite a scare! That was the first and last horseriding lesson for me! The drumming lesson was great but I din't pursue that either! I did apply to Uni and got to the selection day but pulled out as I decided it wasn't for me.
Real good news is that my gorgeous baby grandson, Jack, was born on 22 January this year and I am really enjoying spending time with him.

As for the art: I am hoping to get a selection of 'pop art' pieces together and showing them at an exhibition if possible later in the summer.....lot's of work is needed first though to build my collection and sort out a venue etc. It's not something I have attemped solo before so here's hoping I chase that particular dream!!

EXHIBITION 28 JUNE 2008 and Blog update!!

We had a steady stream of visitors and some nice feedback. It seemed to be mainly other artists who wanted to chat and exchange ideas etc which was nice. I don't think it helped however that the wrong address for the venue was printed in the local ad mag!!

I did feel a little embarressed about putting 'myself' (as it were) on show! My artwork is a hobby and is still relatively, in my eyes, unpolished. I am finding I really like sketching and drawing these days so hope to concentrate more on this aspect of my art. I have been approached to draw a portrait so am considering this! Watch out for new drawings soon to be posted and please leave any feedback, it is always nice to hear your comments.

I have a few other hobbies in the pipeline and made a tentative start this week with both, one by accident: horseriding! I met a lovely couple whilst out cycling who run a horse sanctuary who let me sit on their beautiful Suffolk Punch; a rare breed and absolutely huge! It was the first time I had sat on a horse and what a magnificent creature he is! He was led around and I had my first ride! The second thing I want to do is learn to play drums and my son, Kevin, had bought me a 'drum lesson' voucher for Mother's Day which I used yesterday, it was absolutely fantastic and I am hoping to make time to continue with lessons in the Autumn!

On a more serious note I have been thinking long and hard about returning to college soon and really fancy furthering my education/career, so I am busy researching my options at the moment!

Anyway there are lots of things in the pipeline but I still want to concentrate on my art - at least I have plenty of food for thought!!

Hi everyone

Just a few words to update the blog......

My family and I recently had a bracing week away in sunny (yes..I jest!) Filey. Wow, never had snow with my Easter egg before, but there's always a first time!
It sure was freezing in that caravan, we knew it would be but I reckon we just didn't realise how much!

I have recently 'had a bash' at watercolours and am quite pleased with the results. My first painting is entitled 'Tulips' which I will post soon.

I am pleased to say that my enthusiasm for painting seems to be returning at long last. I think I am going to concentrate on watercolours for a while now.

The picture shown on this post was taken from clifftops in Filey on Easter Monday early in the morning after overnight snowfall and I reckon it's a great subject for another painting-it really is beautiful.

Hi all blog viewers!

Well I haven't managed to get brush to canvas for many months now, but I am hoping to get back into the swing of it real soon! My shed is beckoning! I have been attempting to put pencil to canvas instead and it's not as easy as I thought (as the two attempts below will show) but what the heck, it's been fun and that's what life needs...fun!

I decided after my recent birthday to write (mentally!) a list of goals I would like to achieve before the next milestone birthday; the first is to start horseriding lessons and I am hoping to start real soon, my sister and niece are encouraging me all the way....as is my son, Adam, who bought me some riding boots for Mothers Day to kick start me along the way!! Another unusual and exciting gift I received for Mothers Day was from my son, Kevin; a voucher for my very first drumming lesson! It's something I've always fancied doing, although I am a bit nervous about booking the lesson as I reckon I will get some odd looks when I turn up as I'm not exactly in the first flushes of youth! Still, you gotta keep shocking 'em haven't you! I am really excited about these two impending events! I would also like to write a book and have tentatively started this and registered with an online publisher, it may never happen but I sure will try to make it happen! My mum is a keen childrens story writer so I must get it from her!

Last weekend my husband took me to the Palladium in London to see 'The Sound of Music' which was a birthday surprise and a great day out. I hadn't been to London for several years and really enjoyed the whole train and tube thing and the hustle and bustle of London.

I am both nervous and excited as I have 3 paintings entered into a local exhibition in mid March! I always like to hang around and guage reactions, no matter how much I cringe!! My painting is still in it's very early days but it's good to get totally honest feedback and going along to an exhibition showing your work sure is the best way to achieve that!

Sunset SII Leicester Mercury Feature!

Well, I was really pleased to see my painting in print in the Leicester Mercury on the 16th of Feb! The picture quality of my painting is not too good as the colours look a little muted, they are much more vibrant on the actual painting, obviously the photograph of the sunset has good clarity. Nevetheless, you can hopefully see the comparison of the skies in both pictures.

Since re-posting Sunset II on the blog I have been contacted by the Leicester Mercury who are, I am excited to say, featuring my painting on their 'Mailbox' page (page 14) on February 16th! Although it's just for a bit of fun it is still going to be exciting to see one of my paintings in the local newspaper!! I hope to be able to post the featured item on the blog once it is published.....Can't wait!

I have not picked up my brushes for many months now but am feeling rather inspired to get back to my painting now! I hope to start a new project in the next week or so -
so watch this space!

I have posted this painting as a bit of a revival after seeing a picture in tonights Leicester Mercury which shows a sunset photograph over Coalville, the sky colours are uncannily alike in my eyes....it can be viewed on page 12 in tonights edition (12 Feb)... if you get the chance to see it let me know what you think!!

This one was a bit of an accidental painting really. I originally started trying to use my acrylics but can't seem to get on with them. I let the background dry and decided to paint with oils on top of the acrylic, the mountains seem to have come out really well!

Well after much anticipation the 'studio' is up and running. There's nothing worse than paint all over the carpet so it just had to happen!!

'Bev's Place' is nice and cosy and is a nice little retreat...when I get a chance to get out there!

The last 3 paintings; Mountain Ridge Lake 5, Rocky Point and Tropical Beach have all been produced in the 'shed'.

It needs some cultivation with the plant pots etc. but it's getting there!

The overgrown grasses envelope the 'Forgotten Island' across the sea!

This was just a fun half hour with a set of acrylic paints I was given as a present! The tiny canvas measures just 8x5". Acrylics certainly are different to paint with! Nice but fast drying!

This little canvas sits neatly on a shelf in my 'studio' (yes....it's a shed!)

Hi everyone

It's been a long while since I have put any new 'posting's' on the site. There have been many reasons; some nice - some not so nice! However one of the nice one's is my recent holiday to lovely Majorca. It was filled with hot sunny days spent on the beach or by the pool and evenings dining out; yes a lovely relaxing holiday, very much needed, although it already feels like a distant memory!! We are now back in the humdrum reality once again and amongst this madness I hope to retreat to my shed (aka studio!!) very soon and take up my brushes, so watch this space!!

PS - I've decided: I don't like flying!!

Well, its's been a while since I picked up my brushes so I was a bit nervous when I set up today, but this painting does have a lovely warm autumnal feel about it with it's soft golden glow...hence the name: Evening Glow!

I have not been painting for a while as I am eagerly awaiting my new 'studio' which comes in the form of an 8x6 garden shed!! I am hoping to 'personalise' this little place and make it my own...you know; pots round the door and all the little home comforts of a chair and easel!! As soon as 'Bev's Place' is up and running I hope to spend considerable time there working on new paintings and sketches....so once again watch this space!

My sister, Deb, and her family have recently moved to a new home. They are keen fans of my artwork and have always given me encouragement with my painting.

I am honoured they wanted to 're-home' 8 of my paintings in their new home! - I know they will not go unnoticed there.

Some of the paintings have not been displayed on my 'blogger' previously due to lack of time!

This painting is a firm favourite of my sister Sandra (who has previously produced some lovely watercolours herself, one is proudly displayed in my home) and her husband who last year upped sticks and moved to a new home.

This painting is now re-homed in their dining room-thanks to them for their encouragement.....

Tropical Tides!

Tropical Tide was a bit of an experiment trying to create depth in water, as you can see the water on the horizon has captured the turbulence of the sea! The shore, palms and land need some extra work, however I thought this would be a fun painting to include on the site; my son loves this one and has it displayed in his room!

Fantasy Rainbow Walk was just a crazy colourful moment of painting using up some leftover colours on my palette! My niece Emily likes this one and now has it hanging in her bedroom! "Walk down the path to rainbow's end while dreaming of your fantasy"!
NB: I was amazed to see trees resembling these 'made up fantasy images' in Majorca!!!!

Montain Ridge Lake 3

Mountain Ridge Lake has been a popular painting hence this 3rd version - there is a 4th also! This is a rather more 'panoramic' view as this original hand painted version is on a deep edged boxed canvas over a wide narrow canvas size: 60 x 25cms. No frame is required as this deep edged style of canvas should be hung directly to the wall.

The 1st Mountain Ridge Lake can be seen in the '2006' section of this blog. A firm favourite which is boldly displayed in my son's home!

NB: Although there are 4, each painting is a slight variation/size of the original and no 2 paintings are the same!
